What is ITT?

Impact Team Tennis is a national coed team tennis program that grew out of World TeamTennis, the league started by Billie Jean King. Players across the country compete on local teams, and league winners can advance to Regional Championships and the ITT Nationals.

Each team has at least two men and two women. A match is six fast, no-ad sets on two courts: men's and women's doubles, men's and women's singles, and two sets of mixed. Every game counts toward the team total, teammates can sub in, and cheering and coaching from the sidelines is encouraged.

All times are Pacific. No play on Thanksgiving, November 26. A three-round full round robin assumes four teams. Suggested semifinals: seed 1 vs. 4 and seed 2 vs. 3. Each team match uses two courts.

Who can play?

The average of the two highest-rated men and two highest-rated women on the entire roster must be 3.0 or below. Lower-rated reserves do not lower this average.

Roster example

Men: 3.5 + 3.0 · Women: 3.0 + 2.5

(3.5 + 3.0 + 3.0 + 2.5) / 4 = 3.0 — eligible

Guest policy: non-members

Up to 20% of each team's roster can be non-members. Everyone else must be an ATCC member.

A non-member cannot already play on another ATCC team. If a guest is on any other ATCC team, they are not eligible to join an ITT roster as a non-member.

Example: a 10-player roster can include up to 2 non-members.

Register before the first match

Captains register their team on ITT. Every player registers individually and joins the roster. For ATCC, each player must have a USTA profile and add their USTA number. These ITT results do not affect your USTA NTRP rating.

Registration FAQs

Who registers first? Each team has one main captain (plus an unofficial co-captain). Only the main captain registers the team.

When do teammates register? After the captain's team is created, teammates register and join it.

Which league do I pick? Choose Thursday 3.0 Altadena in the drop-down menu, even though one night (Nov 4) is a Wednesday.

Regional advancement: one team, the league winner, qualifies for regionals. ITT allocates one qualifying team per four teams in an official local league division.

No-ad: four points win. At 3-3, one deciding point.First to 6 games. At 5-5, use a nine-point tiebreak.Add games from all six sets. The Money Court determines whether overtime is needed.

On a deciding point in mixed doubles, men serve to men and women serve to women. Players cannot appear in both mixed doubles sets, including as substitutes.

Substitutions & lets

A reserve can change the lineup while the service and receiving positions stay fixed.

SituationWhat happens
Singles: Alex replaces BenSame-gender substitute enters after a point. Ben cannot return to that set.
Doubles: Cara replaces DanaCara inherits Dana's receiving side and service slot. The partner keeps both positions.
Player already played set 5 mixedThat player cannot enter set 6 or its overtime.
Set 6 continues into overtimeIt is the same set. An eligible unused mixed player may enter; a player removed from mixed cannot return.
Super Tiebreak beginsIt is a new set. Substitutions are allowed; partners may reset receiving positions.

Doubles rotation example: Dana › Opponent 1 › Partner › Opponent 2. After Cara replaces Dana: Cara › Opponent 1 › Partner › Opponent 2. Cara takes Dana's deuce side; the partner stays on the ad side.

Play the let serve. Serve clips the net and lands in the correct box = keep playing. In doubles, either receiver can return it after the bounce. Calling "let" loses the point. Mandatory at regionals and nationals, optional locally; ATCC proposes using it, pending league director confirmation.

Money Court & service

Set 6 keeps the comeback alive.

Example: A leads 28-26, but B won set 6. B wins two overtime games: 28-28, so play a Super Tiebreak. If A wins an overtime game first, A wins the match.

Who serves first?

Home or away? Captains spin a racquet before the match. The team that wins the spin chooses whether to be home or away.

Home starts sets 1, 2 and 6; Away starts sets 3, 4 and 5. Receivers choose the end. Overtime continues the set 6 service order.
